Christmas by John Betjeman

The bells of waiting Advent ring,
The Tortoise stove is lit again
And lamp-oil light across the night
Has caught the streaks of winter rain
In many a stained-glass window sheen
From Crimson Lake to Hookers Green.

The holly in the windy hedge
And round the Manor House the yew
Will soon be stripped to deck the ledge,
The altar, font and arch and pew,
So that the villagers can say
'The church looks nice' on Christmas Day.

Provincial Public Houses blaze,
Corporation tramcars clang,
On lighted tenements I gaze,
Where paper decorations hang,
And bunting in the red Town Hall
Says 'Merry Christmas to you all'.

And London shops on Christmas Eve
Are strung with silver bells and flowers
As hurrying clerks the City leave
To pigeon-haunted classic towers,
And marbled clouds go scudding by
The many-steepled London sky.

And girls in slacks remember Dad,
And oafish louts remember Mum,
And sleepless children's hearts are glad.
And Christmas-morning bells say 'Come!'
Even to shining ones who dwell
Safe in the Dorchester Hotel.

And is it true,
This most tremendous tale of all,
Seen in a stained-glass window's hue,
A Baby in an ox's stall ?
The Maker of the stars and sea
Become a Child on earth for me ?

And is it true ? For if it is,
No loving fingers tying strings
Around those tissued fripperies,
The sweet and silly Christmas things,
Bath salts and inexpensive scent
And hideous tie so kindly meant,

No love that in a family dwells,
No carolling in frosty air,
Nor all the steeple-shaking bells
Can with this single Truth compare -
That God was man in Palestine
And lives today in Bread and Wine.

Santec would come from Breton the " Sant" (saint) and of " Ec" or " Tec" of Decamus, disciple of saint pol.-Aurélien. others think that it' is the small vault of St Hiec (place of worship which still existed in 1625) which would have given its name to the current parish, by multiple changes through the centuries passing of " San Hiec" with " San Yec" , then " San iec" , for finally becoming " Santec". Description [to modify] Santec seen of l' Island of Sieck Santec (or Santeg into Breton) formerly formed part of Minihy de Saint pol. of Leon administrative unit and nun made up of the communes which are aujourd' today: St Pol. of Leon, Roscoff and Santec. Santec and its 17 km of coasts of which 14 km of beaches presents a panorama where alternate granitic rocks and sand beaches end and white. The many sheltered splits offer a refuge to the many pleasure boats but also to in love with idleness and bronzing. With the point of " Rear Corn Loa" one can embrace glance: the beach of Thevenn (where were discovered on small island of Roc' h-Kroum of the tombs going back to Bronze Age),  island of Batz and its characteristic headlight, the channel and its many small islands then the point of Perharidy and part of Roscoff. L' island of Sieck (which is private) visits itself with foot and low tide by a way which curves along the coast to lead to the only existing port on the commune and which was formerly one of the high places of fishing to sardine. The farm presents on  island goes back from XVIIe and the guérite and the vestiges of the body to guard of XVIIIe. In Dossen, impassioned sport can  to devote to surfing, the board with veil, kite-surfing but also to the sand yacht and the walk with horse. Activities [to modify] Nautical: The beach of Dossen is an excellent famous spot of board with veil more specifically for the slalom or the freeride some is the exposures of wind with the frequent presence of waves. C' is why the beach of Dossen accomodated Naish Wave Party in 2000. This small island of Roc' h-Kroum: located on the beach of Theven, a site of archaeological excavations was initiated in 1978, following the discovery of indices (tombstones) indicating an old settlement of small island. A cemetery was discovered there, including a little more  about thirty tombs. The excavations carried out made it possible to discover tombs in trunks, some bones, as well as pieces of potteries. The trunks and structures of these tombs made it possible to date this site with Bronze Age. saint-Adrien church: or Saint-Drien (XVIIème century) was built within pol. of Courcy in 1851 in replacement of a building of XVème century to three naves. It is characterized by its Néo-Beaumanoir bell-tower with gallery, its three bell chambers and its turret d' cylindrical staircase, its bell-tower goes back to 1893. Crosses: Cross-of-Ty-Coz (Early middle ages) and the Cross of Kerradénec (the Middle Ages). On l' Island of Sieck private property attention: The farm (XVIIème century), the guérite (XVIIIème century), the body of guard vestiges of the XVIIIème century, the battery with barbette and the store with powder (1735)

It was in 451, that the invasion of the Huns was stopped, in 811 that the first council of french churches met, in 848 that King Charles « the bald » was crowned and where the victory of Joan of Arc changed the destiny of France.
