RE ISLAND - ILE DE RE

RE ISLAND - watercolour by LODYA - It's undoubtnedly one of the jewels of the Charente-Maritime. The island is 35 km long and has been directly connected to the mainland by a bridget since 1988. APPLE FLOWERS FLEURS DE POMMIER

April Rise by Laurie Lee If ever I saw blessing in the air I see it now in this still early day Where lemon-green the vaporous morning drips Wet sunlight on the powder of my eye. Blown bubble-film of blue, the sky wraps round Weeds of warm light whose every root and rod Splutters with soapy green, and all the world Sweats with the bead of summer in its bud. If ever I heard blessing it is there Where birds in trees that shoals and shadows are Splash with their hidden wings and drops of sound Break on my ears their crests of... [Lire la suite]

ROSES

Rose Pogonias by Robert Frost A SATURATED meadow,Sun-shaped and jewel-small,A circle scarcely widerThan the trees around were tall;Where winds were quite excluded,And the air was stifling sweetWith the breath of many flowers, --A temple of the hear. There we bowed us in the burning,As the sun's right worship is,To pick where none could miss themA thousand orchises; For though the grass was scattered, yet every second spearSeemed tipped with wings of color,That tinged the atmosphere. We raised a simple prayerBefore we left the spot,That... The Frioul Islands and the Château d'If : always a good opportunity for a boat trip... with a splendid view out over the coast of Marseille. Discover this magical place, birthplace of the story of the « Count of... [Lire la suite]

NOHANT AND GEORGE SAND HOUSE

GEORGE SAND HOUSE AT NOHANT VIC George Sand spent her childhood and adolescence in this late 18th century house. Later, once she had become known as « the good woman of Nohant », she wrote the major part of her work here. The house still has the furniture and objects with which the writer lived and entertained many distinguished men such as Balzac, Chopin, Delacroix, Flaubert and Liszt.

CLUIS

A wealth of choices for open-air shows is available at this XIIth and XI C. fortress. Having been the property of families as prestigious as the Chauvigny and the Bourbon-Montpensiers, impressive vestiges still remain including the small entrance castle, the lords lodgings, the castle chapel and the interior courtyard.  The village of Cluis (Dessus and Dessous have been a single community since 18118) conceals other hidden architectural treasures including a XVIIth century semi-covered market topped with an elegant...
